Lauren Rogers Museum of Art is a great place to go if looking for culture in the heart of Laurel, Mississippi. The collection they have consists of Native American weaving, European paintings from the 17th century all the way to the 20th century, American modern art, Japanese woodblock prints, British Georgian silver. Also, at various times during the year the museum hosts exhibitions. The current exhibition is "Recent Acquisitions" and will be on display from December 15, 2009 to March 24, 2010. Being from this area, LRMA is a part of who I am and I remember two exhibitions from years ago that have stuck with me. The first is the weaving exhibition that was up when I was a child. A loom was set up in the foyer and we all had a try on it, weaving and creating. Also, another exhibition I remember vividly is from about three years ago and it was photographer Linda Eastman, who was married to Paul McCartney of the famous rock group "The Beatles." Linda, now deceased, had captured photos from famous bands like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and even The Doors...to name a few. This museum is a definite place to visit if you live in the area.

Check out their site for new exhibits!
